In the latest update DBPLUS PERFORMANCE MONITOR up to 2024.3, we are introducing exciting improvements and brand new features. All this with a view to raising the possibilities database monitoring and management to a higher level.

From improved online monitoring to a smarter notification system, we're excited to introduce you to all the new features and enhancements and explain how these changes can significantly help you manage your databases more effectively.

Online Monitor Updates

What have we changed in one of your favorite modules?

New insights into performance statistics

We have updated the Online Monitor screen in DBPLUS PERFORMANCE MONITOR to display statistics for the last 15 minutes in the form of clear graphs. Now you can quickly switch between different groups of statistics by selecting them from the drop-down menu. This is a great way to keep an eye on the current state of the system and focus on parameters The ones that are most important to you.

Improving the online monitoring mechanism

Sometimes there may be a small increase in the time it takes to load information from query areas, IO statistics or performance statistics, especially when working with specific versions of databases or with large volumes of data.

To improve performance, we introduced an “on-demand” data retrieval model for “problematic” system views. Instead of constantly downloading information throughout the monitoring session, data is now only retrieved when a specific link is clicked. This change speeds up the overall monitoring process and reduces system load, ensuring responsiveness when you need data insight the most.

Example:

When you click on the selected option, the application will display information about the launch of the online data collection, as in the example below:

After the start of the collection, monitoring will be active for the entire duration of the user's stay on the Online Monitor screen and for an additional 15 minutes after leaving the screen.

Online monitor control parameters

In Configuration > Settings, we've introduced additional useful options that give you more control over the Online Monitor screen. Now you can control the execution of certain queries directly from these settings. The parameters are related to the visibility of the graph for:

  • Inquiries - Monitor query statistics
  • Information about I/O - Monitor IO Stats
  • Performance statistics - Monitor Performance Counters

These changes can be applied globally for all instances via “Global Settings” or configured individually for each instance in the “Instance Settings” section. This approach provides the flexibility to tailor monitoring tools to the specific needs and performance requirements of each managed database.

Streamlined sending of performance alert notifications

We've introduced smarter solutions for handling email notifications, especially for performance alerts. When the anomaly monitor detects a performance issue, email notifications are now sent in a more orderly manner.

So far, you may have received an avalanche of emails about every subsequent snapshot with the anomaly detected. If the problem persisted, the box could quickly clog. To remedy this, we have introduced a more practical solution. From the latest version, information about the anomaly will be sent for the first snapshot in which the problem occurred and, if the problem lasted more than an hour, a message will be sent about the end of the problem.

This allows you to know when a problem arises and when it is solved, without flooding your inbox with repeated alerts. This change helps you stay on top of critical performance issues while reducing unnecessary downtime.

Log-Alert Improvements in Oracle Databases

In this release, we have also focused on providing more flexibility and usability when monitoring alert logs in Oracle databases.

Creating Views Using Non-SYS Users

You no longer need to use only your SYS account to monitor the log alert in Oracle. In the latest version, you can select the “Create View” option and indicate any user account that has the appropriate permissions to create views. This gives you greater flexibility and security in managing access to your database logs.

More grouping options on the Oracle Alert Log screen

We have also improved the way data is grouped in the Oracle Alert Log screen. In addition to the existing grouping capabilities, you can now sort grouped data by number of rows or values. This additional functionality makes it easy to organize and analyze log data based on the frequency or scale of events, which translates into a faster response to events in the database.

Improved Oracle log alert monitoring for cloud databases

Due to the growing popularity cloud solutions We have also improved the process of monitoring alert logs in databases running in the cloud. Now your cloud databases can be as scrutinized as on-premises installations, making it easier to track events and respond faster to potential issues.

Advanced sorting on the Session screen

We have also expanded the functionality on the Session screen. From now on, if you group data by selected column, you have an additional option to sort the grouped data by number of rows or values. This new enhancement helps you analyze and organize session data in your database even more effectively, giving you more insight into how it works.

Searching for Log-Generating Queries

On the card SQL Analyze There is a new option — View Log Generating Statements. This tool focuses on finding and displaying only those SQL queries that cause modifications to log files. This is a real breakthrough for database administrators who want to quickly identify queries with the greatest impact on log size.

When you select this function, queries will be listed in the interface that affected the changes in the logs in the specified time interval. Thanks to this, you can easily see which operations affect the expansion of the log files the most.

With the new tool came statistics.”Rows generating log”, visible in the Load Trends area. It tells you directly how many log rows were generated by each query, which is a valuable addition to optimizing and troubleshooting performance issues.

Important note: Data for the “Rows generating log” statistic will only be collected after updating to 2024.3. Any data prior to this release will not be retrospectively analyzed or included in this statistic.

Minor improvements and modifications

Although they may seem small, in practice they can significantly improve work.

Filter by query type on the Slow SQL screen

Now users can more easily focus on specific types of SQL commands. When you select a date range, the drop-down menu updates and shows the available query types for that period. The user can then select one or more types to analyze, which helps to quickly narrow down the list of displayed queries. This makes it much easier to locate and resolve issues related to slow-running queries.

Extended reporting options on the SQL Details screen

Screen Dettagli SQL now offers more options for creating reports that you can customize to different needs and preferences:

  • HTML Preview: The preview option in HTML format is still available, allowing you to quickly and conveniently view the query details in a browser-friendly format.
  • Save to DOC (PL/ENG): New — the ability to save detailed query information directly to a DOCX file. So you can easily collect all the relevant details in a format ready to share or archive.

An example of the information available when [Save to DOC] is selected.

Improved database search on application screens

Now you can quickly narrow down the list of database instances by typing the name of the database you want to see. This will allow you to spend less time scrolling through the list and more time actually completing tasks.

Improved search is available on several screens in the main menu Konfiguracija:

  • Setări
  • Alert Settings
  • Seguridad

About the monitored instance

We've also expanded the data set for monitored instances, making it easier to track important changes and maintain control over your database environment. Now, when you click on the button in the upper right corner of the instance details page, you will find a richer range of information.

What's new? Below is a short list of additional data that you now have access to:

  • Server Changes
  • Changes in Archive Log Mode
  • Database version changes
  • About Edition
